Dress for Success Indianapolis receives grant in honor of Harriet M. Ivey

A $25,000 grant to Dress for Success Indianapolis from The Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust honors the Trust’s founding president and CEO Harriet Ivey who retired in January.   The grant will establish a new endowment fund called “The Founders Society….Stepping into the Future.”  Since 1998, the Trust has provided Dress for Success Indianapolis with six grants totaling $315,000.

The Trust also provided five other $25,000 grants in honor of Ms. Ivey. Other grants in Indianapolis went to Girls Inc., and the Indianapolis Children’s Choir. In Phoenix, grants went to the Beatitudes Campus, Rosie’s House and A Stepping Stone Foundation.

Send One Suit – Thank you Indianapolis!!

A huge THANK YOU to the hundreds of men and women who made Send One Suit – Week 2014 such a great success! Together with Harrison College and Classic Cleaners, we were able to collect over 10,000 garments and over $6,500 in monetary donations! This one week will help provide over 1,300 women with the appropriate attire for their interviews and workplaces.

Harrison College is 2014 Suits for Success Sponsor!

We’re excited to welcome Harrison College as our Suits for Success sponsor for 2014. Since the program’s launch in 2000, over 10,000 women have participated in this unique program. When a woman has an interview scheduled, she is referred to the Suits for Success program by one of our nearly 90 partner community agencies. At her appointment, our women are matched with a volunteer personal shopper who helps them pick out an entire interview ensemble (suit, shoes, jewelry, hosiery, etc.) and provide an invaluable confidence boost right before their big day. Women can also come back to the Suits for Success program for whatever attire they need for work (business casual, scrubs, non-skid shoes and work pants, etc.). Removing the barrier of clothing appropriate for interviews and work while celebrating new opportunities is a hallmark of this program. This collaboration illustrates Harrison College’s commitment to our women and or organization through planned opportunities for employees to volunteer, sponsorship of our annual Send One Suit – Week suit drive and also provides essential funds that guarantee our services are available to the women of our city. Thank you to Harrison College and their associates for working together with us to transform the lives of women in Indianapolis, their families and our community.

Dress for Success Indianapolis

S.O.S. (Send One Suit) – Week: April 21-25, 2014

 Dress for Success Indianapolis is calling on women in the community to pass on their success by donating gently-used suits. The organization is sending out an S.O.S. to central Indiana residents to donate suits, blouses and make a financial contribution during the annual Send One Suit – Week, April 21 to April 25, 2014. Harrison College is the 2014 Suits for Success sponsor and Title sponsor for this exciting event! For the eighth time, Classic Cleaners is supporting Send One Suit – Week by providing coupons to those who donate during this campaign at any privately-sponsored drive.

Each year Dress for Success Indianapolis issues an S.O.S. to all Indianapolis residents: Donate one new or nearly new business suit and blouse and give a financial donation to help a local woman enter the workforce.

The public can help by hosting a private drive with friends or coworkers, donating gently used women’s suits and blouses at any Classic Cleaners store throughout the week or by making a financial donation to support the non-profit’s operations via www.indydfs.org. All donations support Dress for Success Indianapolis. Classic Cleaners has a special offer for anyone who gives a suit, blouse, or financial donation at a registered private drive during S.O.S – Week. Every S.O.S. – Week donor will receive a coupon for $10 off a dry cleaning order of $20 or more. Individuals or businesses interested in hosting a S.O.S. – Week private drive should click here to sign up!

Donated suits and blouses will stock Dress for Success Indianapolis’s boutique where they will be given to disadvantaged women through the Suits for Success program to help transform the way they look and feel about their upcoming interview. Each of the over 1,200 woman served a year is referred to the Suits for Success program by one of nearly 90 partner referral agencies when she is job-ready and has an interview scheduled. At Dress for Success Indianapolis a volunteer Personal Shopper will help each woman pick out an entire interview ensemble, giving interview tips and a priceless confidence boost along the way. Once hired, she is invited back to the boutique to select an outfit appropriate for her new position. Only donations from the community make it possible for clients to say things like, “I felt like the suit I chose was once worn by a very successful woman who had just passed on a bit of her success to me.”

The organization’s work does not end after the clients have received work apparel. Dress for Success Indianapolis also invites women to join the Professional Women’s Group, which meets monthly to provide post-employment support to women on their journey to self-sufficiency. The organization also provides every client with individualized career support through its Career Development Center.

Change often happens when remaining in a situation is more difficult than forging a new path. The financial donations to Dress for Success Indianapolis made by our community, have helped us serve over 10,000 women in Central Indiana as they determine a new destiny for themselves, their families and our city.

Jeronna is a shining example of how Dress for Success Indianapolis ignites the passion needed for change in the women we work with. Jeronna moved to Indianapolis from Ohio with the promise of a new job. She packed up her young son, along with all their belongings, and checked into a hotel to wait for the final paperwork to arrive. The paperwork didn’t come, but a phone call did that informed her that due to a funding problem, the position would not be created.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Jeronna was determined to create a new life in Indianapolis and quickly started a new job search. Living in a hotel and paying for meals quickly drained all her savings, and Jeronna soon found herself staying in a local shelter with her son. She had lost her storage and all of the possessions of her past life, including her business clothing. That’s when she was referred to Dress for Success Indianapolis. Jeronna says the day she came to see us was the day everything changed for her. She landed her current job the day after she received her suit, and quickly joined our post-employment program, Professional Women’s Group (PWG).

Jeronna’s first PWG meeting was a goal-setting workshop called Dare to Dream. The workshop gave her hope for a brighter future and helped her determine what was next. She shared, “With Dare to Dream you are investing in yourself the opportunity and willingness to see yourself differently, your potential and your value.”

The workshop was just the start for Jeronna. She has since graduated to a Lifelong PWG member, completed two financial literacy courses, established a college savings account for her son and is participating in a life-coaching program. She continues to thrive and now volunteers with us to pay forward the opportunities she’s been given. In fact, she told her story to over 950 people at Stepping Out In Style this year.

Jeronna sums up our work perfectly, “PWG takes you to a whole other level and makes you responsible. A lot of people focus on their weaknesses, but PWG teaches you to focus on your strengths.” With your financial donation, Jeronna’s strengths will continue to develop, and we are honored to be a part of her journey toward a better future.

Dress for Success Worldwide Chosen to Participate in QVC’s “Give Joy” Campaign 

Dress for Success Worldwide and QVC Turn #GivingTuesday into a Month-Long Celebration  Customers Donate Directly to One of Four Charities with QVC Matching the First $150,000 in Donations

New York, NY (December 3, 2013): Dress for Success Worldwide has joined QVC to extend #GivingTuesday beyond the one day of encouraged goodwill, offering supporters the opportunity to give back for an entire month, from December 3, 2013 through January 3, 2014. QVC will match customer donations to four select charities, up to $150,000 raised collectively. Dress for Success Worldwide will use “Give Joy” funds to continue providing professional attire, support, and career development tools to women to help them thrive in work and life.

As a part of this initiative, once Dress for Success Worldwide reaches their $300,000 fundraising goal, they will create a fund where 20% of the monies raised above and beyond $300,000 through the QVC Give Joy campaign will be allocated to U.S. affiliates. Dress for Success Indianapolis is an independent affiliate of Dress for Success Worldwide and hopes to be one of the recipients.

In addition to Dress for Success Worldwide, “Give Joy” beneficiaries include the American Heart Association, Cancer and Careers, and the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.  Each organization will be given a dedicated item number and customers will have the ability to purchase a $10 donation to the charity of their choice, just as they would buy any other item via QVC.com and mobile platforms. The item number to donate to Dress for Success is S7125.

“The holidays can be exceptionally hard for women who have no steady income,” said Joi Gordon, CEO of Dress for Success Worldwide.  “Through this campaign, QVC is helping to raise funds and awareness for our mission at a time when it is needed most and is ultimately helping us get more women back to work.”

 Women across Indianapolis Are Encouraged to Donate Professional Shoes To Dress for Success Indianapolis on this National Day of Giving

 The Top 10 Shoe Donors throughout the Country Will Receive a Complimentary Pair of Limited Holiday Edition Palace Heels from Fergie Footwear. Locally, the top donor will receive a $100 gift certificate to Studio 2000 Salon and Day Spa.

 Indianapolis, IN (December 3, 2013): Dress for Success is turning #GivingTuesday into #GivingShoesDay once again on Tuesday, December 3, to honor this national day of giving.  For the second year in a row, #GivingShoesDay encourages women to donate their professional shoes to one of 50 Dress for Success affiliates across the United States—including Dress for Success Indianapolis.  But, supporters of Dress for Success won’t be the only ones giving on this distinguished day of charity—the top 10 shoe donors across the country will receive a complimentary pair of limited holiday edition Palace heels from Fergie Footwear. Locally, the top shoe donor will be awarded a $100 gift certificate to Studio 2000 Salon and Day Spa, a year-round partner of Dress for Success Indianapolis.

Joining the ranks of post-Thanksgiving campaigns such as Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, #GivingShoesDay proved to be a tremendous #GivingTuesday success for Dress for Success, with almost 450 pairs of shoes donated through the organization’s nationwide network of affiliates dedicated to helping women reenter and progress in the workforce.  Having a complete outfit that a woman feels confident in is the key to making a good first impression in an interview setting and, therefore acquiring a new career, making the need for shoes ever-important to this organization.

“My dream has been to design a one-of-kind limited edition shoe for the holidays, and this year we finally made it happen,” said Fergie. “Because this is such a special design, I thought it only appropriate to share them as a gift with inspiring women across the country. The retail proceeds from this limited edition shoe are benefitting one of my favorite charities, Dress for Success.”

Fergie Footwear, owned by Brown Shoe Company, is known for fashion-forward footwear that captures the essence of the eight-time Grammy award-winning artist and style icon, Fergie Duhamel, who is not only a force in the music industry, but also a respected entrepreneur and committed philanthropist. The fire-engine red Palace heel is the latest in the Fergie Footwear line and this lively, limited-edition pump is perfect for the holiday party season.  In addition to awarding the top 10 #GivingShoesDay donors with a pair of Palace heels of their own, Fergie Footwear is also donating 40 percent of the proceeds from the sale of this shoe to Dress for Success Worldwide through the beginning of the New Year.
