The mission of Dress for Success is to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

We have witnessed the transformation of more than 14,500 women in our 18 years of service to the Indianapolis community.

Dress for Success Indianapolis provides professional attire and career development services to low income women living in Indianapolis and the surrounding counties who are referred to us by over 100 partnering agencies. In today’s economy, the women we serve face challenges that extend far beyond finding a job. Most have limited resources and face barriers which require long-term support, perseverance and essential career development tools to help them thrive in work and in life.

Our Suits for Success (SFS) program provides women with the professional look and confidence needed to secure employment, as well as workforce apparel. Each woman who comes to our boutique for a suiting appointment is assisted one-on-one by her own Personal Shopper. These highly trained volunteers spend time getting to know their clients and select the perfect ensemble appropriate for a job interview. Once employment is obtained, clients may return for additional clothing appropriate for their work environment and are invited to join our Professional Women’s Group (PWG). Launched in 2006, PWG promotes employment retention and career advancement by providing professional and personal development opportunities in a safe, supportive environment. Members attend monthly meetings at Dress for Success Indianapolis, and each meeting includes a meal, networking, celebration of successes, a guest speaker and information about resources in the community. After attending for a year, PWG members graduate to Lifelong status and focus on leadership and career development topics, as well as community outreach initiatives.

Our Career Development Center opened in May 2009 and offers the perfect complement to our SFS and PWG programs. It is furnished with seven computers, resource materials and a job board. A full-time coordinator and trained volunteers offer computer access, resume assistance and individualized career development support to all Dress for Success Indianapolis clients. In June 2010, we began offering pre-employment training.

The ultimate goal of our programs and services is to help women become self-sufficient. In order to move toward self-sufficiency, our women need to reach achievement markers such as retaining a job, establishing a checking account, establishment of a network of support, health insurance and reliable transportation. Our three, holistic, employment-based programs provide the support and essential resources necessary to help women achieve these markers and start leading a life of economic independence. Economic self-sufficiency is not an event, it’s a journey. Dress for Success Indianapolis believes that an empowered woman is an asset to herself, her family, our community and the world. We are here for that journey and aim to make it a successful one for each woman who engages in our programming.
