Meet Michelle B.
Through tears, smiles, sobbing, and laughter, Michelle relays her story. It is one of deep pain, sorrow, and regret but also one of triumph, hope, and transformation. She conveys dropping out of high school in 10th grade, struggling to raise four kids, being involved in activities for which she is not proud, and not holding a regular job in more than 15 years. Yet she is infused with hope for the future and is confident that she has turned her life around, and credits Dress for Success for making this remarkable change possible. She is thrilled and so very proud that she has a job, and when she walks through the streets of Indianapolis wearing her work uniform, her feet hardly touch the ground. For she is part of society, part of the working world, and she feels fulfilled.

Michelle beams as she describes Dress for Success, “It is uplifting. It’s wonderful and very helpful, a “nurture center.” Anything I needed to get the job they gave me—they gave me confidence. “ Indeed, the dedicated staff taught Michelle how to complete applications and present herself during job interviews but they also infused in her a sense of self confidence. “At the beginning I had low self esteem and low self confidence. They taught me and gave me the tools and ability to get a job and feel like I belong there, that I’m worthy.” Michelle’s joy and transformation is forever linked with Dress for Success, “I absolutely love it here—it’s a really great place to go. I learned a lot of tools, and I am happy to be who I am now.”
