FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When are donations accepted?
Donations are accepted Monday – Thursday from 9:30a-11am at the side door located in the parking lot south of the building or the garage door at the rear north side of the building. Donations are also accepted one Saturday each month, from 10a-1pm, at the garage door. You can find the next collection date on our website.
Why are donation hours so limited?
Clients begin arriving at Dress for Success Indianapolis at 11:30am. Once clients are in the building, we focus our attention on providing them the resources and support they need for the course of their scheduled appointment. It is unfair to clients to stop their appointment to intake donations.
What if I can’t donate during the scheduled times?
Our generous partners, Classic Cleaners, accept donations for us. You can take your donations of blouses, tops, suits, and suiting separates to the Classic Cleaners location nearest you during their normal business hours. Please note: donations dropped at Classic Cleaners are not dry cleaned for us so they must still be clean and on hangers. Dress for Success Indianapolis does not clean or press donations.
Why do you request donations be clean and on hangers?
Dress for Success Indianapolis Suits for Success operates a ready-to-wear boutique. Many of our clients go to interviews the same day as their suiting appointment or the next day, and many of them do not have the resources to clean and iron the clothing received. Donations received that are clean, on hangers, and appropriate for an interview in today’s workplace are placed right on the boutique floor for clients. Clothing received folded and/or in trash bags will not be used for clients.
What kind of clothing are you looking for?
We need women’s professional suits and separates that are not more than 5 years old and appropriate for a job interview. If you would not wear it to a job interview or to work today, we will not suit a client in it.
Why don’t you take estate donations?
Dress for Success provides today’s working woman with appropriate attire for her job interview or her new workplace. If the pieces are not professional attire, in line with current styles from the last five years, the attire is not appropriate for our clients.
Do you pick up donations?
No, we do not.
Is there a program like Dress for Success that serves for men?
Yes. Ascension at St. Vincent operates a program, Success Wear, on the northwest side of Indianapolis that provides professional attire for men.
Do you have to work in a corporate environment to participate in the Professional Women’s Group (PWG)?
No. The Professional Women’s group is open to all employed women, regardless of industry or job type.
I can’t commit to attending every class or workshop. Can I drop in for workshops and classes that interest me?
Yes. For the E.D.G.E. workshops and Professional Women’s Group (if currently employed), you can sign up to attend the session(s) that you feel are most beneficial to you. However, you must rsvp for the session you plan to attend.
Do you offer job placement?
No. The programs at Dress for Success Indianapolis prepare women to search for and secure employment. Periodically, we are provided job leads which we share with clients or on our social media pages.
