Tanya Sovinski currently serves as Director of Community Relations for AES Indiana, a subsidiary of The AES Corporation (NYSE: AES). The utility serves 500,000 residential and commercial customers in Central Indiana. Sovinski has more than 20 years of experience in strategic partnerships, marketing, and communications in the private and non-profit sectors. Since 2016, she has led corporate social responsibility and employee and customer engagement strategies for AES Indiana. Through this work, Sovinski is committed to strengthening our communities and improving the lives of those who live and work in Central Indiana.
Prior to AES Indiana, Sovinski served as Director of Development for the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, EMRG Director for Entercom Communications, and Display Sales Manager/Sponsorships/PR and Promotions for NUVO Newsweekly. Tanya’s commitment and passion for the Indianapolis community are clearly displayed through her personal engagements as well. She currently serves on the Board for Leadership Indianapolis, Indianapolis Parks Alliance, Indianapolis Public Safety Foundation, Downtown Indy, and the 500 Festival.
Tanya holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Hanover College. She is also a graduate of the Stanley K. Lacy Class XXXVIII and LEAD 2017.
Fun facts:
- I’m deathly afraid of heights yet I have gone bungee jumping, parasailing, ziplining in the rainforest, and skydiving.
- I was one of the beta testers for the Starbucks app (back in the day)
Hobby:
I love to read. I try to balance my reading by rotating developmental books and books purely for entertainment value.

It’s OK to slow down.
Career advice for women:
Be there for one another. Build one another up. Support one another.
Your hero:
My mom. She was a single mother who worked three jobs at one point when I was younger. In my freshman year, I started a morning ritual. I would take two cups of coffee into her bedroom and we would sit and talk on her bed each morning. My mom is one of my closest friends to this day.
Life Lessons:
Something that has always served me well is to try and stay calm. If you are panicking in a situation, you are most likely not able to work through a resolution.
