We do this by providing professional attire, career development resources, and a network of ongoing support – completely FREE to the women we serve.
When you volunteer with us, you’re not just giving your time. You’re helping women in Central Indiana gain confidence, take steps toward financial independence, and build a future they’re proud of.

Step 1: Fill out the Volunteer Application
Step 2: Watch the Volunteer Roles Video
We’ll send the video by email after receiving your application. It explains our volunteer roles and provides the information you’ll need for the Find Your Fit form.
Step 3: Complete the Find Your Fit form
We’ll send this form by email, along with the video. You will get a chance to share your interests and availability. From there we will connect with you with our opportunities and our volunteer portal.

How do I apply to volunteer?

When do volunteer shifts happen?
Most roles take place Tuesdays-Fridays mornings and afternoons. Some support roles offer virtual options and more flexible scheduling.
Do I need to commit to a regular schedule?
Not at all. We welcome volunteers who are one-time, occasional, or ongoing.
Can I volunteer with a group/company?
Yes! We offer tailored group volunteer opportunities for corporate, university, and service organizations. These opportunities are open for groups up to 12 people. For more information for group volunteering email jonell@indydfs.org
Is there an age requirement?
Volunteers must be 18+.
Do I need special skills or experience?
We provide the training you need. Just bring a positive attitude and willingness to learn. Please note, some roles require HR or related experience.
What should I wear?
Most roles in our boutique require business professional/business casual attire to reflect the professionalism we aim to model for our clients. Volunteers in the stockroom, however, should wear casual clothes and comfortable shoes.

Is there free parking?
Yes! We have free parking in our lot attached to the south side of our building; metered street parking is also available.
How will I hear about volunteer opportunities?
Once we receive your completed forms we will connect with you privately via email to get you signed up on our volunteer portal. Our opportunities are regularly updated on there that you can sign up whenever!
How do I volunteer for Stepping Out in Style?
Stepping Out In Style has a separate form and volunteer process. You do not need to complete the volunteer steps mentioned above if you are only volunteering for the event. Sign up to be a Stepping Out in Style 2025 volunteer here!
