How PROJECT P.I.N.K. helps women prepare for work and life after incarceration.
For many women at the Marion County Justice Campus, release day brings uncertainty: Where will I work? How will I support myself? Who will give me a second chance?
A partnership between Dress for Success Indianapolis (DFSI) and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, PROJECT P.I.N.K. (Pathways Into New Careers & Knowledge) helps women prepare for employment and life after incarceration.
Launched in July 2024 and led by DFSI Career Development Program Manager Charli Downton, the program provides workshops on leadership, communication, resumes, interviews, and workplace readiness.
“It is the highlight of my week when I go in and work with these ladies,” Charli said.
But the program offers something even more powerful: hope. Women in the program wear pink uniforms, earned through good behavior and commitment to personal growth. Because of the program’s success, Charli invited participants to help name it. Through brainstorming and voting, they chose PROJECT P.I.N.K., a name that proudly reflects their dedication.
Charli continuously fosters a safe, judgment-free environment, which allows all of us to be honest and make the most of our time with her,” one participant said.
