In her role, Jonell works directly with women to build confidence and prepare for professional success. Her hands-on support inspires women to take bold steps and achieve their goals.
Here’s Jonell’s perspective on how supporting and empowering women can inspire lasting confidence and growth.
- What moment reminds you why your work to empower women matters?
The moment they step out of the fitting room and smile at their reflection in the mirror. Suddenly, the interviewing process feels a little less intimidating — with clothing and shoes that they look and feel great wearing.
- How does confidence change when a woman feels supported?
Having support removes the feeling that you have to do everything alone. The support women receive through our programs — whether that is a great outfit and shoes or a well-designed resume — helps them focus on their strengths and boost confidence as they pursue new opportunities.”
What impact do you see when women are given resources and opportunity?
Many of the women we serve feel like they have only a small window to look toward their future. But once they are given resources and opportunities, they begin to realize they have multiple doors that can be opened to their future.
- What keeps you inspired in your work?
My co-workers and the passion they have for their work. Our volunteers and their compassion for the women we serve every day. The women we serve and their determination to create future opportunities for themselves and their families.
- What does women’s empowerment look like in your everyday role?
Having no judgment of the women we serve in our programs. They each have had their own experiences, and my role is to give them a space where they can feel like someone is listening to them and cares about what their future will be. Providing a space where they can just take a deep breath and be themselves.
