Sarah was referred to us by her sorority advisor to prepare for a huge opportunity. Sarah was so excited about her visit that she referred her peers, and wanted to share her experience with you.
How did you find out about Dress for Success Indianapolis?
I found Dress for Success from my current Phi Theta Kappa advisor, Carrie Sample. I am in the running to be the Executive Secretary for the Region and I have to give a speech at the Spring 2023 convention. I needed a business outfit, and she sent me to you!
Why did you decide to get support from Dress for Success Indianapolis?
I chose to go with Dress for Success because the website was professional and when I spoke with someone on the phone, they were also professional and kind. I am in the transition from warehouse jobs to working in the office world, so I needed the extra support of women to help tailor a look for me.
What services did you receive at DFS Indianapolis?
I was able to speak with Shirley Thomas one-on-one on my initial arrival. She walked me through all that Dress for Success has to offer. She listened to my story and was nothing but supportive and encouraging. She even encouraged me to reach out to the marketing team to share my story to help other women in the community.
What challenges did you face before coming to Dress for Success Indianapolis?
The challenges I faced, to be honest, in coming to dress for success are all of the construction around Indianapolis. It is such a tiny store with such a huge offering. Big things come in small packages.
How did we help you overcome those challenges?
This was more of my issue. I would have called someone, and I am sure they would have helped. I do not doubt that. Persistence is key!
What has changed for you after visiting DFS Indianapolis?
I have not given my speech yet. It will be on March 24th, 2023. What has changed for me is my peace of mind. I don’t have to worry about what I am going to wear. I know that when I get up on that stage at Ivy Tech, I am going to have all of the confidence in the world because of the awesome team at Dress for Success.
What advice would you give to another woman facing the same challenges as you?
Never give up. Just when you see one door close another door is opening. Stop looking at the closed door and start searching for the open one.
Think back to the first day when you came into DFSI, what are the words you would use to describe what you felt?
Calm, peaceful, encouraged.
What are your goals for the future?
I want to go as far as my education will take me. I believe we are only as big as we can dream. Maybe one day I will move to New York and become a big-time new producer, with my chauffeur, and I won’t have to worry about construction ever again!

Why do you think it is important for women to come to DFS Indianapolis?
We need a world where women are encouraging other women. When you come to Dress for Success, you do not just get a new outfit for your job or event you have coming up. You get a network of like-minded women who want to see you succeed.
