If I was an animal, I would be …
A great horned owl, because it is observant, protective, and revered as wise.
If I wasn’t in leadership at RJE, I would be…
An elementary school teacher, because I’ve always loved kids and enjoy teaching on many different platforms.
How did you personally become involved in volunteer activities in Indianapolis?
Philanthropy, philanthropic giving and the idea that giving back is a gift has always been part of my families’ life. You could say it runs in my blood, so I entered my professional career I wanted and worked for it to be a critical part of my professional life on a personal level and also understand the importance of giving back to the community in which we live and work. I immediately started to get involved with organizations that give back to the community, and actually started my career at United Way as a campaign manager. As my career grew and I transitioned to RJE and leadership there, I am grateful to continue to be involved with various volunteer activities throughout Indianapolis and also continue to serve on varying boards and committees of organizations throughout the community.
Why is it important for RJE to support nonprofits in the community?
I believe it is a gift to give back to your community. At RJE, giving back and volunteerism is a large part of RJE’s culture, which started with our owner’s leadership in building a culture of philanthropy 20 years ago. Now, we believe part of our responsibility as a business in Indianapolis is to be involved in our community and give back. If we want our community to thrive, then we need to be a part of making that community successful, whether that is through volunteering or donating. RJE also believes in and wants to support organizations that empower women and women in leadership, so we have been a big supporter of Dress for Success Indianapolis. We have been heavily involved for several years, including supporting Dress for Success Indianapolis through my own board membership, RJE sponsoring the organization and also our owner and CEO, Denny Sponsel, being involved. Giving back is a gift!
One thing on my desk I can’t live without is…
Coffee, a good notebook and a good pen (specifically VISCO Glide!). I can’t have any of these without the other, so I see them as one!
